Yacht charter type primarily refers to the level of service you wish to have onboard. The charter type will largely be influenced by the sort of vacation you wish to have and the budget available.

Most yachts will only offer one type of charter, which varies from boat to boat. So, before you consider a yacht, it is important to check which types of charter the boat offers to make sure it meets the needs of your vacation.

Charter Types

Captain Only

Skippered Charter

A skippered charter refers to a captain-only boat. Whilst more uncommon, this budget-friendly setup is a great option for those who prefer to dine ashore in local restaurants and book their own activities.

THe full crew

Crewed Charter

The complete package, crewed charters provide the luxury of having an entire team onboard dedicated to making your vacation a success. The size of team typically correlates with the size of the yacht but usually includes a captain, a chef, and a steward. This type of experience usually mirrors the service you would receive at an all-inclusive hotel.

Just your cabin

Cabin Charter

The most budget friendly option, cabin charters allow you to rent a single cabin on an existing yacht charter. Whilst you may compromise on the flexibility of setting your own itinerary, cabin charters often include a full crew and are a great way to meet new people and enjoy the seas in luxury.

For the daring and adventurous

Bareboat Charter

The bareboat charter describes a yacht rental without crew onboard. It is therefore up to the guests to plan and navigate the seas themselves. Whilst this sounds hazardous, bareboat charters are usually restricted to guests that hold a captain’s licence and/or many years of hands-on sailing experience.
